FLUIDITY EXHIBITION SEPT TO MAR 24

Movement through art

Art has always been a medium of expression and exploration, a way for us to understand ourselves and the world around us. And in this ever-changing world, the idea of movement has taken on new meanings, both physically and metaphorically. Movement can be a physical act, an emotional journey, or a creative process. It is this idea of movement that is celebrated in the latest exhibition, ‘Fluidity’, curated by established art dealers Patricia LaFontaine and Natalie Morgan-Davies.

The exhibition, overseen by A Space For Art, will be on display at MYO in Victoria London for the next six months. It features the works of notable artists such as Allan Storer, Corinne Natel, Henri Haldane, Jo Mitchell Long, Rakerman, and myself. Each of us has explored the concept of fluidity in our own unique ways, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the boundless world of creative liberation.

As an artist, I believe that having a free and fluid mindset is crucial to my creative process. Before I even pick up a brush, I use various audio and fragrance-based rituals to help me achieve a state of 'flow'. This allows me to work intuitively and intentionally, without any preconceived notions or limitations. It is in this state that I am able to let go of control and let the art speak for itself.

My paintings, like my mindset, have a sense of softness to them yet are inherently 'rich'. I use multiple layers of fluid pigments washes, allowing each layer to dry of its own accord. This gives the paintings a sense of depth and dimension, as well as creating the perfect canvas for my happy accidents to take place. These accidents are embraced and given space of their own within the paintings, becoming an integral part of the narrative.

The process of creating each piece is itself a form of movement. I pour, drip, and add to the canvas, building up layers upon layers until a narrative begins to emerge. I work with acrylic and ink washes, as well as impasto and intentional brush strokes, each adding their own unique element to the final piece. The end result is a harmonious blend of intentionality and spontaneity, capturing the essence of fluidity in its purest form.

But fluidity is not just limited to the creative process; it can also be seen as a metaphor for life. In today's world, where change is constant and boundaries are continuously shifting, the ability to adapt and go with the flow is essential. It is this delicate balance between freedom and creativity that we, as artists, strive to capture in our work.

In conclusion, ‘Fluidity’ is a celebration of movement, both in and out of the canvas. It invites viewers to let go of their inhibitions and immerse themselves in the endless possibilities that come with embracing fluidity. As we navigate through life, let us remember that sometimes, it's the unexpected movements that lead to the most beautiful outcomes.
